PALFINGER Marks Expansion In Slovenia

PALFINGER is investing in the future of its European manufacturing network with a new production facility in Ormož, Slovenia. The company today marked a major milestone in the EUR 70 million project with an official groundbreaking ceremony. Scheduled to become operational in 2028, the site will expand manufacturing capacities for crane and lifting solutions and further strengthen PALFINGER's global production and logistics network.

Building on more than three decades in Slovenia, PALFINGER is breaking ground for a new production site in Ormož. The company's presence in the country began in 1993 with the opening of its first manufacturing facility outside Austria in Maribor. To mark both PALFINGER’s investment and its long-term commitment to the country, members of the Supervisory and Executive Board, together with representatives of the Slovenian government and the local community, planted several trees at the site.

The new site in Ormož marks an important step in further developing our manufacturing footprint, improving operational efficiency, and creating additional value for our customers,” says Alexander Susanek, COO of PALFINGER. “Over the past three decades, we have built a strong foundation in Slovenia through our site in Maribor. With Ormož, we are expanding our presence in the region while strengthening our entire global network.”

Danijel Vrbnjak, Mayor of the Municipality of Ormož emphasized “satisfaction with yet another extremely important milestone for the municipality. This investment represents important building block in the municipality's development. The project is in line with the municipality's long-term development vision, which has already succeeded in attracting several high-profile investments in recent years. For this reason, the municipality itself helped prepare the necessary infrastructure. They will continue to invest in this area going forward, with the aim of strengthening existing partnerships and establishing new ones, to ensure further development of the municipality.”

Representatives of the Government of the Republic of Slovenia, Katja Koren, State Secretary at the Ministry of the Economy, Labour and Sport, as well as Zdravko Počivalšek, State Secretary in the Cabinet of the Prime Minister of the Republic of Slovenia, emphasized that the PALFINGER investment is a sign of trust in Slovenia and that such investments represent a driving force for the development of a country that is strongly export-oriented. They also praised the Municipality of Ormož and its mayor for the work done and their development-oriented approach. At the same time, the State Secretary emphasized that the Government is committed to creating conditions for Slovenia's competitiveness and assured that it will support all efforts to implement the next phases of this investment.

Enhancing Production Capabilities for Crane and Lifting Solutions
PALFINGER is investing up to EUR 70 million in the new plant, which is being built in the Glinokop industrial zone in Ormož on a site covering more than 18.5 hectares. With construction already underway and production scheduled to start in the first quarter of 2028, the project is progressing as planned, with further steps taking shape. Once completed, the location will comprise a state-of-the-art production site with an assembly hall, a coating facility, a logistics hub designed to optimize supply chains, and a training center dedicated to the development and qualification of apprentices, employees and service technicians. Ormož will expand PALFINGER's manufacturing capacities for components used across different product lines.

Strengthening Efficiency and Customer Focus
With its Strategy 2030+, PALFINGER continues to optimize its global production footprint with a focus on efficiency, customer proximity and targeted investments in future growth markets. Together with Maribor as well as the other European production sites, such as Lengau (Austria) and Niš (Serbia), Ormož will become an integral part of PALFINGER's European manufacturing network. The investment in the new site is a key pillar of this strategy and is creating the foundation for future growth while increasing the resilience and competitiveness of its global operations.
